The Rit Tie-Dye Kit – Indigo Shibori makes it simple to recreate one of the most stunning traditional dyeing techniques at home. Shibori, a Japanese art form, involves folding, twisting, or bunching cloth, binding it securely, and then dyeing it with indigo to reveal striking, organic patterns. With this kit, you have everything you need in one box, making the process both easy and inspiring.
Inside the kit, you will find Indigo All-Purpose Dye, rubber bands, twine, squares, protective gloves, and straightforward instructions. Additionally, it includes our ColorStay Dye Fixative, the key to reducing fading and bleeding so your designs remain vibrant. Because of this, you can create lasting, wearable works of art with confidence.
Moreover, this kit is not limited to indigo alone. You can pair it with any shade from our All-Purpose Dye line to expand your creative possibilities and experiment with endless variations. It is also perfect for cotton, linen, silk, wool, ramie, rayon, viscose, nylon, modal, and tulle.
For the best results, start fresh by using Rit Color Remover to eliminate existing color from your fabric. That way, you’ll achieve a true dye-ready canvas for authentic, bold, and spectacular shibori designs.
How to Dye:
First, remove colour with Rit Color Remover (optional).
Next, choose your desired shade.
Then, pick a dye method—sink, bucket, or washing machine.
After that, mix 118 ml of dye with 3 L of hot water for every pound of fabric.
Now, dye your fabric for 10–30 minutes, depending on how deep you want the colour.
Once dyed, apply ColorStay Fixative (optional) to reduce fading and bleeding.
Finally, wash your fabric and enjoy your one-of-a-kind creation!
