Foodsil Food Safe Silicone Rubber - AMT

Foodsil Food Safe Silicone Rubber – AMT is a two-part silicone rubber. It has a high tear strength and is a RTV platinum cure, flexible silicone mould rubber compound. This silicone is recommended as a mould material for food applications (FDA approved). It can also be used for rapid prototyping, casting polyurethane, epoxy and polyester resins, wax and a wide range of other casting materials.

Platinum cure silicone rubbers are chemically sensitive to latex, sulfur and certain other materials during the mould making process. Therefore do a small surface test before commencing if unsure about surface compatibility.

Pot life- 45min (time before the mixture becomes too thick to “work” with)
Demould time- 24 hours
CPS viscosity- 6000 / 8000
Shore hardness- 20 / 40 (lower shore hardness results in a softer rubber while higher shore hardness results in a harder rubber)
Tear strength Nmm- 14 / 27
Elongation at break- 550% / 350%
Linear shrinkage- 0.01%
Specific gravity- 1.05 / 1.1

Pouring:

For best results, pour the Foodsil Food Safe Silicone Rubber in a thin stream to the lowest part of the mould in a single spot and allow material to flow around the model and self level. Cover the model by at least 10mm with the silicone.

The physical life of the mould depends on how you use it (materials cast, frequency etc.). Casting abrasive materials such as concrete can quickly deteriorate mould detail, while casting non-abrasive materials like wax or plaster will not affect mould detail.
