Gouache
It is a water-based paint that is similar to watercolour and acrylic paint but is chalkbased, making it opaque. Gouache is made from a mixture of water, natural/synthetic pigments and a binding agent like gum arabic or dextrin.
This paint is opaque, matte and dries faster and darker than watercolour. Note that it is also water-soluble, so it won’t cake onto brushes and is easy to clean up. It is often used by commercial artists for posters, illustrations, comics and other design work. Watercolour brushes and watercolour paper can be used. The paper beneath the gouache won’t be as visible as it is when using traditional watercolors.
The word “gouache” is pronounced gwash like “squash”.
