Description
The Statue of Liberty, initially titled Liberty Enlightening the World, which dedicated on October 28 1886, is a monument commemorating the signing of the United States Declaration of Independance. It was given to the United States by the people of France, representing the friendship between the two countries established during the American Revolution.
The 151 ft (46 m) tall statue, standing on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, is also a museum of U.S immigration history. The base of the Statue of Liberty, the eleven-pointed walls of Fort Wood, was constructed by using donation money from over 120,000 contributors, raised by Joseph Pulitzer. In 1984, the Statue of Liberty was listed as World Cultural Heritage, and became a symbol of USA.
