Envirogel – Silica Gel (Orange to Green Indicating)
Envirogel’s orange indicating silica gel is an ideal solution for applications where visual control of moisture is necessary. The gel changes colour from orange to green as it adsorbs moisture. Providing a clear indication of when reactivation or replacement is needed.
Silica gel is widely used in arts and crafts, providing an efficient way to preserve materials and maintain optimal humidity levels. In the world of crafting, moisture can be damaging to materials like paper, fabric and even dried flowers. Causing them to degrade, wrinkle or mold. Silica gel helps prevent this by adsorbing excess moisture. Keeping materials dry and in good condition.
For instance, when preserving pressed flowers or leaves. Silica gel can be used to absorb moisture, helping to retain their colour and shape over time. In jewellery making, silica gel prevents tarnishing of metal pieces and keeps beads, gemstones, and other components dry and free from damage caused by humidity.
Additionally, artists often use silica gel in storage containers to protect paintings, sketches and other artwork from moisture-related issues. The gel’s ability to indicate moisture levels by changing colour from orange to green provides a simple and effective way for crafters to monitor their supplies. Moreover, its non-toxic and reusable nature makes it an ideal choice for safe, long-term moisture control in arts and crafts projects.
Silica gel works by adsorbing and trapping moisture from the surrounding air thanks to its high surface area. Which allows it to absorb up to 40% of its weight in moisture while remaining dry to the touch.
Silica gel operates effectively at temperatures up to 60°C. It performs best at room temperature (20-35°C) and in environments with high relative humidity (60-90% RH). Its versatility and reusability make it a popular choice for a variety of applications, from storage and shipping to electronics and pharmaceuticals, ensuring items stay dry and protected.
Keep these objects dry with silica gel:
- Old books, photos, documents and memorabilia
- Makeup, vanity and travel bags
- Dry out wet cellphone
- Stop camera condensation
- Hearing Aids
- Keep Fabrics and luggage dry
- Protect Silver
- Dry out flowers
- Bulk pet food
- Gun Safes and ammunition boxes
Reactivation Instructions
When silica gel turns green, reactivate as follows:
Spread silica gel on a tray. Place in an oven at 115°C to 125°C for approximately 2-3 hours or until beads turn orange again. Once the silica gel has been reactivated, remove from oven. Let it cool until you are able to handle them. Store silica gel in a sealed container until ready to use.
