Modern pewter is lead-free and safe to use. It is made from 95% tin, plus copper and antimony. It is quite safe to be used for all kinds of food and drink.
Copper and antimony act as hardeners but may be replaced with lead in lower grades of pewter, imparting a bluish tint. This type is only safe for ornamental uses.
