Marie Jeanne – Artesania Model Ship
The Marie-Jeanne is a historically significant tuna fishing boat, part of the Dundee class, weighing around 50-60 tons. It was rigged as a yawl and typically carried a crew of 12 men. The boat was equipped with outrigger poles for trolling tuna, making it an essential vessel for the fishing industry. Model ship enthusiasts often recreate the Marie-Jeanne to capture its detailed design and historical importance, showcasing the craftsmanship and maritime heritage.
From the French Harbour of Concarneau, it sailed from 1900 till 1950. The general trend towards engine propulsion contributed to the end of these elegant fishing boats, which often sported colourful sails.
